Replicate Any Gasket! (Vector Graphics for CNC) | Saturday Projects
Wow, what a long winded video just to say: Scan it, Crop it, Image Trace it, and send it off to get fabricated. Hope you enjoyed it though. If you're looking for the gaskets I made, hold tight! I'm actually still testing/adjusting them, but I'll be sure to add a link here once I'm done.
Video Amendment: Exporting as a DXF from Fusion 360 is an option too! If you export it from a technical drawing, you still have to convert it. However, if you right click the sketch in the feature tree ( in the normal modeling workspace), then you can save it as a DXF that is readable by Illustrator.

Heyo! I just released some merch! The link is in the description for the store. If you pick something up, it would be much appreciated and maybe then I could afford to activate windows
When’s your last episode. Have you been able to get the panels back yet?
Great video! Just hated the random zoom changes.
This channel has just gotten better and better. Not only has it gotten more informative, Fingerman is more articulate, confident, and snarky than ever. Do not stop post-Fiero. Ever.
any computer part that's more than 100 dollars I'm fine with, but with Windows activation, I would never financially recover from this 😂
This guy 🤣
Channel ownership issues I see...
There’s an angle to the gasket’s dangle.
what about .dxf?
Helping others... priceless
Even if it is only one person - I agree.
I thought I was straight. Til i saw this gasket.
Great video!
Dirty mind lol
A method shown to me by my brother-in-law when I was a kid: take a cereal box and turn it inside-out, lay the plain brown side up; lay the old gasket FLAT on top of the cereal box; lightly spray paint over the old gasket (make sure it doesn't move while you spray paint it); this will leave a perfect shadow (no paint) outline of the gasket! Then just cut out the new gasket with scissors and an X-Acto knife. Feel free to use a light film of gasket maker on both sides of the cardboard gasket, and there you go! I made many gaskets this way, including for thermostats. Works great when you're in a hurry and on a tight budget.
When did America change to the metric system? The only metrics I can use is hand tools. My brain can't comprehend millimeter and centimeter. I can never remember which one is the bigger of the two. When I was in elementary school they tried to start teaching us the metric system and the state of California made them stop. It was all political back in the early 70s. That's 1970's.
mad lad really hit us with the 97 tocoma water pump gasket
Phallic Gaskets by Ronald Finger. (C) 2020
Please tell my you’re doing a 1997 Toyota Tacoma build
The thumbnail looks very phallic.
If you help one person it's worth it? Come on over and help me (the one person) with my project car. Come on, "it's worth it". That doesn't always work out in life. Otherwise, all good.
I was talking about taking the extra time to make the digital files to share with people, as opposed to just tracing and cutting yourself, being worth it. It was not an all-encompassing statement about life.
Penis thumbnail?!
I literally did not get the phallic symbolism in the thumbnail until someone pointed it out. Oh boy!
Wait wait wait, in the first technique, why not just print it off from Fusion 360? Why would you need to go into a vector program?
I think I mentioned it in the video, but I personally had to use Illustrator for printing on my school's laser cutters.
ACTIVATE WINDOWS :(
ok, that's a penis a gasket penis you're a man of culture, mr finger... I approve.
Eww, you use firefox 🤮
@Ronald Finger I like the way you think, probably because it's similar to my own, but I think the phrase is "crap ton" (most likely because it's more "workplace friendly"). I'm a "shit loads" kinda guy myself, but that's because I was born in the 1950s. That's also why I prefer "bitchin'" over "sweet." Ex.: "That Fiero is really bitchin'!" To my jaded ears, "sweet" sounds so . . . limp. I have my limits, though. Your use of "sucks ass" is a bit too anatomical for my sensibilities as it creates imagery and triggers memories that are not always pleasant. So, along with the phallic imagery in this video I'd have to rate it "PG-14."
@Ronald Finger you make a fair point. I think Firefox is a good browser, but I do like to poke fun at people who use the less popular browsers anyway 👍
I was a Chrome boy for as far as I can remember, but I switched over to Firefox when I learned how great Mozilla is. They seem to really care about user privacy, plus they're a non-profit. They're really against huge corporations which is already reason enough to pick them over anything else. But above all, Firefox doesn't use a shit ton of memory.
Pro-tip, This comes from many years of doing what you do, only with other kinds of things, I used to be a production designer for a company called SlickWraps. Scan your gaskets in black and white, not grey scale, not color. you will have even better results with less tweaking. Otherwise your video was extremely fantastic. I personally use Corel draw not Illustrator. It was a bit more user friendly, plus when i learned it, its all the place i was working for had. in any case, love your vids, and i cant wait until we see you paint your fiero.
Method 4. Get a tube of RTV and slather that shit on
I'll just use gasket maker xD
"Fingerprints Workshop"??? how about ---Finger Works??
I think you just came up with a business model.
Is it bad that I knew what the water pump gasket was from, and I have never owned a Tacoma? Car groups have warped me.
That is awesome! Great idea!
That background music reminded me if the Arena War music in GTA Online
Lmao got that tacoma waterpump gasket
Let’s just cut to the chase *P E N I S G A S K E T*
Darn, GM quit, why bother(even though they used "other" parts from "other" cars.). Great JOB, as well as instructional. It took ME a lifetime to figure out HOW to find a "customer" that could afford all that.(1987 Pontiac Fiero owner and driver).
Thanks for the sharing!
I came for the dick
@8:18 "Did the engineer mean to make it look like the male reproductive system?" Lol!
lol. at dong gasket
Awesome idea. Love it. I'll still stick with trace and hand cut because yea I can have it done now on the spot.
I need all the gaskets for my ATV Honda engine, but I don't have the resources to do as you showed inn the video, do you have any idea of how a can get them, the engine I have is 17 years old, and it's a 450 ccm, the closest I can get to my engine nowadays is a 420 ccm and a 500 ccm
@Ronald Finger my ATV is a Honda foreman TRX 450 2003, I did find a gasket kit on the internet, but I don't know if that is all the gaskets I need
A quick ebay search pulled up a decent amount of results for 98-2004 450 Honda ATV engines. I would do a search there if you haven't already, because (without knowing what model you have exactly) it seems like this might be what you're looking for.
Still waiting
Why are there 2 dicks on the thumbnail? I know, I should grow up.
What's up with the double dong thumbnail lol
I'm not sure what you're talking about. It's just a water pump gasket.
Nice thumb nail
Lol! Funny bro!
Hey I have an idea for merch, You could have "Fingerprint Workshops" Just below a graphic of a Pontiac fiero side view. You probably won't see this, but it's just a thought
The back of this shirt already has a side view of the Fiero :)
Click for the thumbnail, stay for the thumbnail? :D
Bro... sorry to say this... but you seriously need to activate windows
Nice tutorial m8! But Illustrator live trace is not a perfect tool. As long as you are cutting vinyls/paper and other soft materials it is ok, but live trace is making a lot of anchors in the vector path. So if you are going to cut the shape in the steel there is a possibility that the edge will be preety rough :/ Also, an advice from me. In Illustrator open window with live trace options and tick the option "ignore white" - nothing to select and delete after the expand :) Keep it up! I really enjoy your videos! :3
Activate Windows
You: Post really great video Everyone: "Where's the fuckin' Fiero!?!?!?!?"
the gaskets in the thumbnail looks like dicks.
Ronald: uses CAD software and technology to make a gasket. Me: uses a cereal box as gasket material and traces the old gasket with a pencil and cuts it out with a razor blade
How about wrist watch gaskets? For a Seiko to keep the inside dry & clean !
The huge cock-gasket caught my eye LOL
Please make tutorial no. 3 in a single video and make it more detail. Its too fast to understand.
The thumbnail looks like a cock and balls.
Hi Ronald! Do you have any link for the Fusion 360 for free? I tried to find it, but all I can see are licenses for lease. Thanks for your answer.
@Ronald Finger Thank you very much.
On the Fusion360 Download / Free Trial page, just click "Personal Use", then scroll all the way down on that page and click "Get Started"
So funny... the last gasket that you got off the internet look just like Peppa Pig! Ha... so funny and what a coincidence.... Appreciate the videos and I'm awaiting the video of painting the body, reassembly, and seeing the finished car!
If you use the free Shaper Utilities plugin for Fusion 360 from the Autodesk app store, you can export directly to a SVG that should work with any version of Illustrator. apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=3662665235866169729
I work in manufacturing and I have to say seeing you switch from program to program was painful to watch. My industry uses CorelDRAW exclusively. All the steps you performed can be done in CorelDRAW and it can export files to almost any format. We use EnRoute for our CNC machines which can import EPS, DWG/DXF or AI files and those file types exported from Corel are always flawless. Plus, there are fewer steps to actually draw/recreate/trace things like gaskets & other items. Honestly Corel gets on my nerves sometimes with it's quirks but as someone who is fully proficient in AI/PS, AutoCAD and a ton of other programs over my 18 years in manufacturing & design, I don't see myself designing anything like this in anything other than CorelDRAW.
If one doesn't have access to Adobe Illustrator, the free, open source program "Inkscape" is excellent! Just google it.
I do this in inkscape... And cut with my $500 24" USA cutter ^_^.
Nice job Ronnie. Good video
That's a pretty wholesome message at the end for a video that has a thumbnail of a.... gasket.
8:12 Hum...
Ima just here cos the thumbnail looks like a pp
Thumbnail for this video looks like cock n balls...
Why the gaskets look like a dick and balls?
Why not just export to dxf? Also right before u start the fusion 360 a clip of ur email is visible
Hey Ron - Does this count as one of those "other, non fiero videos" you were complaining about nobody who watched the fiero series watching? The Fiero did bring me to your channel though
PSPS this is also an awesome video, thanks!
PS as a european i thank you for your use of proper measurement systems
Of course you would use a 2.7l water pump gasket
I see what you did there with the thumbnail sir 😂
that lowkey humor is great.
Brah. Looks like a. Peepee
The gasket that stops a limp penis leaking, aka the tacoma gasket.
My cock and balls gasket blew, that's why I clicked this video.
lol dick gasket
nice thumbnail
If you don't have fancy software like Adobe, which can cost thousands of dollars just like fusion 360 (if you don't have a student license)... I've done some of those illustrator things in inkscape... its not as good as illustrator, but its the open source free equivalent.
Inkscape is a great alternative! I made sure to mention that in the video. And Fusion360 is 100% free for anyone. Instead of the student license, you can just select the Personal Use option when on the download page. No money or enrollment in school required!
Am I the only thinking that the file conversion issue is Adobes fault?
Very true! Adobe should get on updating too. I just thought it was funny that since Autodesk has the written the code to convert the files, they could just easily implement that into their other software packages.
Lmao, did a gasket out if juice box!
Came for the thumbnail. ...that was it.
Bro you are a dead-ringer for young Emitt Rhodes. Just discovered his music and was like: ‘oh damn that’s who I recognized!’ Keep up the videos! Much love and respect!
Nice phallic thumbnail.
really lovin that updated thumbnail
That’s a gasket for the giant dick pump.
that's a penis!
That's a well hung thumbnail.
Dat thumbnail tho
Dong. That is all.
These double ads are bs
Perfect thumbnail
This is very niche;
"We're not cavemen here" Years ago I was a carpenter in NYC and I used all metric measuring tapes, drywall square, etc. Everyone laughed at me at first until they realized I was running circles around them because you can do metric math in your head, even if you suck at math, like me. Meanwhile they're practically doing algebra on a napkin to figure out what's 89 1/2 inches divided by 2 foot 7 inches. :):)
@8:14 it looks like cock and balls. Jussayin.
Stop teasing and make the damned fiero painting video!!
no
You know the thumbnail gasket looks like a dick, right??
With a quick glance at the thumb nail, I was thinking, “Wow, that looks inappropriate.” Time to get the mind out of the gutter. 🙄
@T B That person was being ridiculous for sure. Also funny how they automatically go for gay and not bisexual or pansexual. The world is not black and white with just straight or gay.
@SpaceMissile Freud also had extremely outdated/nonsensical ideas that don’t even make any sense. There is a reason all psychologists nowadays rightfully dismiss him and don’t take him seriously anymore. It doesn’t matter what your sexuality is. ALL human beings have a dirty mind in some ways. It’s natural human behavior. Does that mean you’re attracted to something that looks sexual? Absolutely not. It’s also funny you automatically assume gay when they could even be bisexual or pansexual. Not everything is black and white, straight or gay.
@T B freud says when you see phalluses everywhere, you're probably "resisting the urge," if you know what i mean
Why's a guy gotta be gay? Maybe he owns one of those things just saying...
i think you might secretly be gay. no wait i meant to type "i think he did that on purpose," sorry. 😅
Good gaskets. But why you dont use Hig temp silicon. which is the advantach ? Regards
For a lot of parts, if you add a little bit of white lithium grease on both sides of the gasket, you can remove the component multiple times without breaking/tearing the gasket. Just makes things a lot quicker and easier. Especially useful on a side cover for a motorcycle!
can we talk about email at 1:49 ???
